winters blews

My boots trudge along the crunchy ice laden grass as I make my way to the top of the hill. My coat blocks me from the coldest winds but my nose is an Eskimo explorer and has no shelter.
Every now and then the wind blows and small speckles of frozen water crash against my face as I burrow deeper down into my scarf.

This is winter.

This is Armidale.

For the majority of an Armidale winter you cannot feel your fingers or toes. Maybe they have run off somewhere warmer; to sun bake on a Hawaiian beach or sip cocktails at a Balinese bar. This can make walking and texting rather tricky.

You must layer. My layers are calculated. Socks, tights, socks, pants, singlet (tucked into tights) undershirt (tucked into pants) shirt, cardigan, jumper, scarf, coat, gloves, beanie. Sometimes you don't see your legs for weeks and weeks, as they have been burried under cotton. When eventually they do brave the cold and pop out they will be much hairier than your expected (the kinds of things that scare small children in the night) and you will tuck them safely away, back into their cottony home. Keep them warm and keep them safe from those who wouldn't understand.

Drink tea, read near a fire, cuddle your puppy dog... these are the things you must do if you want to survive it.

there's no place like home

the sewing machine and the girl had worked together and created something completely different.
the girl smiled, the sewing machine hummed.
this was the beginning.
this was the end.

I get trapped inside my head sometimes. It's hard for me to get out of here and back into the world, my thoughts can be mean, but they're never cold or windy. I can forget about the outside world and just spend days upon days walking around inside my head in a warm little bubble. I like it in here, it's safe and there's no annoying people.
I sit in my head and we talk and we muse and we contemplate. We both forget about the world that exists outside. Sometimes I allow visitors, it's always a little uncomfortable though, watching them walk carelessly through my rubble walls, touching my erratic mess. We whisper mean things about them, but only very quietly.
I worry about how much time I could spend here if the world didn't always insist on getting in the way at some point, I like it in here, we like it in here.

I prefer my bubble.
I prefer this world.

violent breeze

I'm the wind. I float through my life & and the lives of others. I move branches, shake loose a few leaves and stir up trouble with the lighter of the garbage elements.
My life is flighty, unstable, unpredictable and always moving. Always moving.
I will never stop.
I turn peoples hair to tangles, lift up their dresses with my perverted breezes. I make music with the chimes and help fires gain ground.
I am unstoppable. I will float through you and see everything you try to hide.

Dear Eternal Holidays and a Winter of Sunshine and Beaches,

i love you,
both...
Dearly, deeply and endlessly.
You make the pointlessness of human existence not bearable but pleasurable. I have learned to love my life since you entered it. I've been lonely, I've been alone, I've been swallowed and I've been spat. I've been bored, lazy, frustrated, depressed, anxious, worried and desperately trying to ignore the path to my future. But through all this commotion and confusion you have given me hope and courage and the distraction I needed to ignore the mess.
My life has become one big adventure. You wake me up in the morning with your kisses and your wishes and we sneak out of the house and run, we run until the adventures find us. I whisper my dreams into your ears and you make them real.
You are my armor against everything life throws at me. You have given me new eyes and I will not be afraid again, so long as I have you by my side.
Without you I'd be hiding in a cave alone, worried and scared with only Fear to keep me company.

I'll run forever,
